Every other number is composed of this \u201cone\u201d in the form of combinations or groups. This is where \u201ctens\u201d comes to our rescue. We combine \u201c9 ones\u201d and one more \u201cones\u201d to make a \u201c10\u201d or \u201c1 ten\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"is-style-default wp-block-image size-full eplus-wrapper\"><img eplus-wrapper\">Now, we can represent the same quantity as \u201c1 ten and 2 ones\u201d or the number \u201c12\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">As the number of objects increases, we keep grouping and making tens.<br>For example, the number 37 means \u201c3 tens and 7 ones\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Thus we form bigger numbers and use \u201ctens\u201d and \u201cones\u201d as our basic units to make counting easier.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">These units are called place values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Place Values<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">All two-digit numbers are composed of tens and ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">For example, in the number 56, 5 is at the tens tens, 4 tens, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Factoid 2: The largest one-digit number that we can make using ones is 9 and the largest two-digit number is 99, which means \u201c9
