Timing Your T

T is a standard and simple letter. It is found in a large percentage of English words and has an elementary formation. Its sound is quite simple and without too many variants. T is among the first letter names and sounds taught to children because of its simplicity and recurrence.

Troubleshooting with T

T can be great fun to discover and learn. When you make the process engaging and interactive, the learning never stops!

Start with teaching your child to identify the letter. T has a stick-like quality to it, filled with straight lines and perpendicular angles. Help your child build stronger letter-name identification by tracing the letter and playing games to identify the right one.

When forming the lower-case T, remember to point out the importance of crossing the T, without which your child will have drawn out the letter L. Tracing games can help crystalize the letter form in your kids better.

The sound of the letter name is a word in itself – tea! Tea being such a common word can cause a little confusion in relating the letter name to the phonic sound. Phonic games are the perfect way to ensure plenty of repetition, recognition, and recall. Each time your child sees the letter, encourage them to sound out the ‘tuh’ for themselves and not just wait for a cue. Sounding out letters is the best way to remember them better.
