Introducing Uppercase Letters to Kindergarteners 

Between the age of 4 and 6, kids more readily recognize and prefer uppercase letters to lowercase as most of the letters are easy to learn when in uppercase (except the orientation-based confusion for W and M). 

As the uppercase letters have more single-line strokes, these seem easy to draw too. Since they are more common in the environment, such as in alphabet books, advertising, banners, and titles, younger kids are more familiar with them!

Exciting Ways to Teach The Uppercase Letters to Kindergarteners

Before teaching your kids the uppercase letters, check how much of the lowercase ones they know. As most of the letters in a book they read are filled with lowercase, it is easier to go from lowercase to uppercase.

When the teaching speed and style match the child’s ability, they can gradually progress with the uppercase letters! 

• Make the kids practice the letters with their appropriate sounds. Vocalizing is of prime importance here.
• Attach some pictures of the animals or fruits or anything starting with the same uppercase letter.
• Tell them to write their names in uppercase.
• Grab a book and encourage them to read more.
• Craft the letters using sticks or clay.
• Read some rhymes and picture books.
• Make hand movements showing the shape of the uppercase letters.
• Teach them letters one after the other. 
• And last but not least, make the learning process enjoyable with some online games.

How to Support Your Child in Kindergarten?

Start with understanding how much your kid identifies. Place the fingers on the letters, both uppercase and lowercase, one by one, and ask them to articulate each of them.
