The compensation strategy is a method used in mathematics to simplify addition problems by changing one or both of the addends into friendly numbers before solving.

The warm-up activity helps students practice making a ten to add two single-digit numbers and counting forward by tens to find the result. This prepares them for applying similar strategies later in the lesson.

The exit slip allows teachers to assess students' understanding of the concepts covered in the class. The Speak Up activity gives each student an opportunity to share what they have learned and explain a strategy for simplifying addition problems.
